  1.  In praise of nice workmanship . . .My NN3 II was shipped quickly from Rosauro and I couldn't believe the quality when I unpacked it ! (Even my wife was impressed at the 'microscope precision' look of everything) I sat in my car in front of the post office and just stared at the looks of this BEAUTY. The concept and implementation are superb. The black case is very nice and functional too. (I don't usually appreciate when a product comes with a case to make it look 'special') BRAVO !!

  2. I recently purchased the NN5 and it's definitely a beefy unit! I have my Canon 40D with WFT-E3A wifi grip on it. I just got my pneumatic air mast (for pole aerial photography) and did a few trial runs. I sent the mast up with a motorized pan/tilt head, with the NN5 and Canon40D/WFT-E3A on it, that's about 10lbs of gear. At 49 feet (fully extended) it worked great, eventhough I did have guy wires on the mast and it was leaning over a few feet (that means even more force on the joints on the NN5) It worked flawlessly!

  3. The combination between NN3 and the appropriate software convinced me that this panoramic head was just for me – especially after I had the opportunity to try the new MKII rotator thanks to your new dealer in Bulgaria. Probably my next purchase will be exactly MKII. I am quite pleased with it and with the last NN3 version on the whole. The new accessory products you have been developing recently also make excellent impression to me.

  4. I had purchased my NN3 via a UK reseller, and to cut a long story short the horizontal arm got damaged with usage, nothing wrong with the product it just took a heavy whack that bent the arm. I emailed NN3 for advice and very quickly got a replacement arm delivered through the mail. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. Customer service that is way beyond what I expect and I look forward to making future purchases. (well, apart from actually parting with cash, never did like that bit)

  5. Thank you very much for a great product and an informative forum. I attended Jook Leung's first-ever 360 Degree Panoramic Workshop at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine in April. We all tried out various pano brackets and most ended up using the Nodal Ninja. It works (extremely well). Thanks for your incredible "support", Bill.

  6. Hi, 2 years ago, I bought a Nodal Ninja SPH2 model. I know ...you will tell me that it is now a vintage piece... but it works just perfect.

  7. I just spent two days working with friend who has been shooting VR professionally for years. It appears as if Nodal Ninja is the WAY TO GO!
Just waiting for the IRS check to arrive and stimulate us out of this depression.
Ninja is a great solution to real problem for anyone serious about VR.

  8. Your Staff have been wonderful to deal with, which means more to me than a low price item or a purchaseable item without support. Thank you!

  9. Had a chance to use my new NN3II on the ninth of June with a Nikon D200 and a Nikor 10.5mm lens. The NN3II worked just great and very easy operation of 6 around for a 360 and one up for a zenith. On the 360 shots I did tilt the camera down 15 degrees. A fine piece equipment. Thanks Nick,

  12. Hi Bill,
We love your bracket so much that we are getting a second set for our new Photographer. It is a great system and we are looking forward to seeing the new improved version! Thanks,

  13. Hello here from a very happy customer - first a NN2 SPH and then a NN3 (mk I) - and soon a NN5 that I am going to order without waiting for the result of this giveaway. When my NN2 was stolen with all my camera gear, it was one of the first things I ordered back (and Bill was incredibly nice).

  14. Thanks a lot that is much appreciated. We are looking at expanding our Virtual Tour team so later on in the month we will be ordering more. Thanks again for the great service Regards

  16. I bought an NN3 last year for my first trip to the National Parks of the Southwest (Zion, Bryce, Moab, etc). I'm not sure what I was impressed with most. The sights I saw or the ease of use and beautiful design of my NN3. Oh, and I brought back some awesome photographs, compliments of my NN3!
    avpman - Nodal Ninja Forum

  17. Hello Bill, thanks for your mail. And thank you for that nice NodalNinja - panorama photography opened a new world for me and my NN3 helped me a lot to discover that world. And after more than 300 pictures my NN3 is still in a very good condition and working fine. But i can take a second NN3 when i'm taking pictures with friends and the can start making panoramas to :o). thanks
    Klaus F. Germany

  18. Thanks for the forum, it should allow me to shoot better. I bought my NN3 from France when it was just released but never had the time to really use it. I'm glad I kept it though! Grin I knew I would put it to good use one day and enjoy it. By the way, I want to send my best regards to the guys who manufactured it and take good care of the forum and the website which are crystal clear.

  22. Hello, upgrading from NN3 to NN3II with the new rotator is a good deed ! The difference is amazing !
Smoother rotation, sharper clicks, easier to adjust, no vibration.Much better all round.
Thanks for this evolution ! Cheers,

  24. Being very fond of free prizes (:-) i really thought i should add a message saying i just ordered a NN5L after several hours of research (like 60 or so over the last two months), the main competition was the [deleted] which would have ended at about the same price as the NN5L with shipping and everything, but the NN has the advantage of vertical shooting which the [deleted] has at a 40% higher price. Also the NN has recieved alot of good reviews and this forum shows a great deal of interest in me as a customer so i actaully feel safer buying a NN5L from you, half a world away, than a [deleted] from the local reseller, 15 kilometers away.

  25. 'm useing a Nodal Ninja 3, fantastic product!!! Light, small, compact & easily transportable
    Kuczora - Nodal Ninja Forum

  26. Shameless plug for the NN3 (so I can get into the contest and win big. Although, I'm really very happy with the current NN3. Maybe one of those new rotors?) The NN3 is so small and light, that I was able to take it camping and hiking, and yet so accurate that I was able to template my first pano onto the following panos. Contol points? With the NN3, the word is "easy". Let PtGui generate 'em, then go to the control point table, highlight anything over 0.55 and delete it.
Kirk D. - Nodal Ninja Forum

  27. Thanks, Bill. Your package just arrived in Montreal. Everything looks great. Your gesture is very much appreciated. Your NN products are great---simple design and very well-made. Once I can figure out which model I need, and when they're available, I'll be ordering a pair of the newly-announced NN rotators. If it happens this summer, I'll be dealing through you, for shipment to my Maine summer place. Thanks again. All the best,
    Harold Montreal Canada

  28. Just received my NN3. I can't say enough.I love it! Exceeds my expectations. Well made and just the right size so it doesn't get in the way. Thanks for a great product.
    Sy B. USA

  29. I'm using the G9 now with the NN3. It works like a charm for spherical panos without a fisheye. It does take a LOT of pics to get there, but the quality is higher. I go that route because my output is to large format print.
    Frate - Nodal Ninja Forum

  30. I like the versatile use of the NN5 a lot, for a high pole I shoot 5 images around with the panohead mounted on the Seitz VR Drive and a Canon 5D+shaved Tokina 10-17mm @14.6mm wit a downtilt -15 degree to get a nice leap in nadir.

  32. I have one of the first NN5's...what a great product. Very impressed when I received it...craftmanship and materials are outstanding. Used it for a client the next week, generating a QTVR of the pano created of the inside of his restaurant. Very easy to use. I played with it the day prior, then shot the restaurant the next day. Images stitched wonderfully and everyone loved the pano & QTVR. It paid for itself on the first use. Thank you for a great product! Shocked

  33. Extremely happy with the Ninja! I've recommended it to a friend who runs a real estate photo shooting company. He'll be buying a nice collection of NN3s / NN5s to outfit his crew.

  34. Gee - you guys keep improving on what I thought didn’t need improving. I bought the MKII rotator for my 2 year old NN3 which by the way has been dropped and abused (sorry) and the thing works like new. The new rotator has much better feel and much easier to use not having to worry about the lock screw. Well done Nodal Ninja team!

  35. hello, i bought the original and sold that to a friend to upgraded to the NN3. i love this unit, it is inexpensive (compared to most others on the market), well built and easy to use. i mainly create multi-row flat pan images and the NN3 has helped to speed up the stitching process with better alignment of the individual shots. thanks for coming out with such a great product.

  36. I just couldn't bring myself to the nearly $1000 with all the bells. I decided to put together my own. I have the shop with all the tools to do this. I was in the process of ordering materials and some off the shelf parts when I found the NN 3 mkII. I put all my material purchases on hold and did some quick cost analysis. The result: I can't even buy the materials for an indexed head nodal panoramic head for what I just paid for the NN 3 mkII. Thats not counting what my time is worth to do all the machine work to put one together. For example the Manfrotto 300n indexing head currently sells for $180. Then you need 3 sliding rails and another way to index the upper head for multi-row panographs.
PS I used to do all this in the old days with a tripod with 360 degree markings and a long long long.... time in the darkroom ! Thanks for a great product(NN 3 mkII)........

  37. I just received my NN3 after only 3 days of waiting Smiley  I must say that I am blown away by the quality of this product! This is a precision piece of equipment nicely packaged and well thought out. I am simply amazed! INCREDIBLE piece of engineering! Thank you so much for providing such a quality product at an affordable price. Can't wait to put it to use on my trip across Europe in a couple of weeks. Thanks again!

  46. Congrats to Nick and Bill and everyone involved with the Nodal Ninja! I am a true believer in this product and their dedication to excellent service. I couldn't imagine using any other pano head. The size and portability, not to mention the low cost, just can not be beat. This forum is another great way for anyone interested in panoramic photography and I have definitely added this site to my list of resources when I get stumped or need some advise on anything related to panoramas.

  48. Hello, Greetings from Germany. Since January 2007 I am a very satisfied user of the NN3 with Nikon D200 + Nikon AF DX 10,5 mm. Congratulation, the new developments look great! My interest for the future is to do the panos with my D2Xs. So I will need a new Nodal Ninja Cheers,
    Pepsi  - Nodal Ninja Forum

  49. I've used the NN3 for about 18 months now, shooting hundreds of panoramas. I've just changed a detent pin for the first time because I could barely feel the clicks-stops. I'd love to upgrade to the MKII or the NN5 just because I like to unpack and use new gadgets but I don't actually need to, my NN3 serves it's purpose just fine.
    Henri Nodal Ninja Forum

  50. wanted to give a quick report of the NN3: Without knowing exactly why, I am getting amazingly accurate stitches on the first try. This is also true for NN5. I suspect that the improved accuracy of the indents with the ball bearing makes it much easier for PTGui to optimize. When walking around with the tripod with camera and NN3/NN5 mounted, the first optimized pano can be used as almost perfect template for the others that were shot near the same location.
    Carel S. California (Canon 5D w/ 10.5mm Nikkor)

  51. The NEW Nodal Ninja 3 MkII is a fantastic panohead and the improvements to the rotator and detents over the NN3 is significant.
    Smooth, Bathhurst Australia

  52. I received my NN3 Mk2 today and having shot a few interior test shots I must say that this head is great. Some may consider this a downgrade from the likes of othr more expensive options but I beg to differ. Previously I used a (deleted and the results were good a best. I would have to retune the head constantly and even configured perfectly still found the head to sag under the camera weight. For a head that weights less than a quarter of the (deleted, the Nodal Ninja its far superior. It can be locked by plates to keep its setup and does not sag in the slightest. PTgui stitched a 6+2 shot sphere flawlessly with no need to fiddle with control points - that’s what I want - a head that I can take time to produce great shots and not have to worry about alignment errors occurring that can ruin a pano. I would recommend this head to anyone intreated in starting panoramic photography for its simple setup, and further endorse it for professionals because its lightweight, flexible and outperforms heads 2x or more its price. See the results of a super quick test capture thrown into PTGUI via my attachment image - please don’t mind the watermark - now i know this head is perfect I will be moving to PTgui from my previous (more expensive) stitching application. The shot is just a simple 6 row fullframe fisheye in a cofined space to really push the alignment accuracy - results perfect.
    Patrick C. Ireland (Nikon D70 10.5mm DX)

  53. Studying the detailed photographs on your Web pages gave me a fair idea of what the Nodal Ninja 3 looks like, but I was truly surprised and greatly impressed when I finally had one in my own hands to examine. My late father-in-law was a skilled engineer who produced, amongst other things, precision medical equipment. Seeing his work gave me some appreciation of the challenges involved in making exactly calibrated tools. How well you have succeeded in meeting  the manufacturing demands of a spherical panoramic tripod head! The build quality is impressive and adds to my confidence that I shall enjoy many years of useful and rewarding service from this photographic tool. While the essence of the design brief for a panoramic head is quite straightforward I recognize that implementing all the consequential details is not. In this you have succeeded marvelously and in particular I note with approval that the Nodal Ninja 3 is a mature product incorporating many refinements, no doubt based on years of experience and problem-solving. Also to be applauded is the reasonable pricing of all the items in your catalogue. I wish you continued and growing success in your business. Creative photographers need dedicated, skilled and sympathetic technicians like you to support what we're trying to achieve with our art. I have completed a number of basic experiments using the Nodal Ninja 3 and the results have been all that I could have wished for at this stage. The head is quick and easy to assemble, thanks in particular to the rail stops, and the E-Z-Leveler simplifies tremendously the sometimes very fiddly task of getting the camera exactly horizontal. With kind regards and best wishes,
    Graham S. Adelaide, South Australia ( Sony DSC-F828 CZ VS T 7.1–51mm)

  54. Took my first pano today with the D300 and NN3II. The pano looks great...

  55. All in all, I am extremely pleased with the NN3. I think it is the most appropriate tool for my needs and it does everthing I require of it. If I were to require another pano head, I would certainly get another NN3 and I would certainly get it from Rosauro. Happy Nodal Ninja 3 user,
    Tom B. Canada

  56. I use my Nodal Ninja all the time in my professional resort photography and especially when out in the field. I thought about the new Nodal Ninja 5 for my Canon 5D but decided to stay with the smaller lighter version. Maybe I'll get the bigger one later.

  61. Hi Bill, The NN5L rings arrived today - thanks they will be very useful, and they are such beautiful things, just as objects, aren't they. My NN5L arrived last Friday along with the T-30 adapter I ordered from red Door VR. The 'fit, feel and finish' are excellent and it has a very 'pro' appearance. My initial efforts with my D40+10.5 fisheye and my small P5100+WC-E68+T-30 (3 rows of 12 around for 360x180) have been very pleasing. I'm glad I chose the NN5L rather than the NN3 - which would have been quite 'good enough' for either of the cameras - because I actually like it being bigger - I'm not planning to hike with it - and the 'excess length' on the arms provides nice 'handles' with which to move it around.
    Andrew S. UK

  62. So far, I really like what I see. This NN5 is much stronger than my previous QTVR head. I was able to do a quick and dirty pano almost right away and it should work well. I am impressed by it. Look for a Blog post about it on my site soon.

  64. Excellent product! Why I spent a thousand dollars on a (deleted) I’ll never know. Sure it’s a quality head but certainly does not justify the cost for my purposes. This is testament to the fact that you need to shop around before you buy. In my case I only had to ask once. I’ll sell my (deleted) and take the money saved (or lost) to buy a lens. Thank you Nodal Ninja - you rock!

  71. NN5L is what I have been looking for. It works well with my D3 using the 70-200 2.8 VR lens. I use this lens for doing mosiacs so sturdyness is important. Nick you did well on this. Regards

  75. I purchased from my local shop in Alba Piemonte Italy. I was going to buy from the Uk but wanted to support my local shop so I asked him to source it for me. 76. Hi Bill, The more I use this Chevy, the more I like it. This is really a nice piece of craftsmanship. Everything fits well, clamps down tight, and it's very easy to use. Swapping out the detent plates is even less fuss than I anticipated. Thanks!

  77. Hi Bill, I want to thank you for your wonderful product. I'm a professional photographer and I use your head when I travel. I have other products that I use for my professional work. One product that I have was very expensive. $1045 is what it cost me plus shipping. I won't mention its flaws or name manufacturers but one day I decided to use your head with my Canon 15fe lens. I've since purchased other panorama heads because I need to do template stitching on most of my assignments. However I keep your head in my camera bag whenever I go out. Its the best backup a professional can have. Its also the best head to travel with. I also want to thank you for your superb customer service. I've dealt with many companies in the past. Your service tops them all. Great job and keep producing great products for the VR community.
    Paul L. USA (Canon 5d and 15mmFE)

  78. I got your head some weeks ago and spend much time with it. Its a really good head and in my opignon the best compromise between strudity and weight....Congratulations to your head!!!!

  79. Bill, You certainly do live up to your reputation. Thanks for that most valuable link...just when I thought I had some free time... I am aware of Panoguide forum and have used it - information overload usually. FYI - I am now selling my (deleted) head there - too heavy and more than I need. Best regards,

  81. I've just sold my (deleted) and purchased a NN3 through your UK distributors - great service. Essentially nothing has changed apart from I now have and extra $300 in my pocket and I'm not in danger of injuring myself from carrying around a panoramic head. THe NN3 is about 1/3 of the weight and packs down for more conveniently for traveling. Great product - thanks
    David C. UK (Canon 5d / 17-40 f4l and 50mm f1.8)

  82. I'm really thrilled with the NN5. The build quality is first rate. It easily supports the  D3 and 70-200 2.8 zoom, just like you said it would. Excellent product!

  83. Hi Bill, i've got it today. GREAT STUFF ;o) Thank you one more time - for your service, for the goodies and the very friendly communication. Now i will try it - and, sooner or later, you will find my firts - nodal-nija-panorama on my homepage. So, I think we will have contact in the near future because of further business. Kind regards
    Norbert S. Germany (Nikon D2X)

  84. Bill- Thanks for taking care of me. I did indeed get the NN5! Although the 5 looks like it will become my go to rig, the 3 will stay in my camera bag for a long time. My initial impressions: Hefty feel, thick arms nice finish. Rotator detent screw adjuster makes getting the feel of the detents a breeze without screwing up the rotator operation. Camera plate looks to make the setup faster. Damn, it's big. I wonder if and how the friction control knob on the side of the rotator is going to effect nadir stitching. The upper rotator detents are pretty stiff, I'll have to adjust them. The bubble level works! Yay! Please pass on my congratulations to Nick for a successful product launch. And, thank him for his efforts and his commitment to our little niche of photography.  Hope you have a great '08!

  85. I love Panoramas and have struggled making good ones w/o a pan head. I did some homework, found your product and the new NN5! Pre-ordered it, and WOW! First, I'm amazed at how beautifully made it is. Second, but even more important, I was able to set it up and use it in about 10 minutes from start to finish, even with a change of detent plate included. First series of shots came out dead bang perfect on the first try... absolutely perfect stitch, no parallax error, no ghosting. I'm impressed. Thank you... my panoramic world just got a whole lot easier and a whole lot better. Love the nice case etc., too. Best,
    Rand A. USA (Olympus E-3, E-510, E-1 )

  86. Thanks heaps, just received my nodal ninja 5, what an awesome product!! It is long enough for my camera/lens combination, but small enough to fit in my camera bag. Thanks aswell for the case that I didn't know I was getting. It was worth the wait.

  87. Superb service and packaging. In eagerness to find the camera lens's nodal point, much to my partner's annoyance, I have taken over the brightest and longest room of the house, the kitchen. No supper tonight! I have read so many favourable reviews of the NN3 but now I have it in my hands, rather on my tripod, no words can do the service and the device justice. Thanks Bill & Nick!
    Steve A. England (Canon G5)

  88. Very interesting product, key assets are: the small size, the light weight and the reasonable price.
I absolutely love the small hard shelled case which fits into my pocket. ;-) I have to recognize that the NN3 in it's simplicity is very functional, robust and well engineered. A great asset, considerably reducing post-pro time is the possibility to shoot the nadir avoiding the tripod footprint in the image, by simply unscrewing and turning the vertical element. To my knowledge the NN3 is the only head on the market having this feature.

  89. I have given my Nodal Ninja a real workout over two months of professional tourism/resort photography sphere images that includes trekking for miles in very rugged terrain. It's light, quick, easy to set up, easy to use, well thought out, and otherwise a fine and well made panorama head. Thanks for a permanent addition to my photo kit. I've already thrown away my former pano heads.

  96. Hi Bill, I've been using the Nodal Ninja now for almost 4 months and it's everything you said it was! Very easy to use and quick to set-up. My real estate virtual tours look great and I actually sold a property site-unseen...they only saw my virtual tour! Great product at a great price!! Just had to drop you a line to say thanks! All the best,

  97. Hi I purchased a Nodal Ninja recently and I wanted to post my results. The first thing you notice when you open the box is how well made it is. It is solid aluminum and there is no bend in it at all. It comes in two pieces with all of the accessories you might ever need for it (extra pads, extra plates, hex driver, etc) I was able to put it together and mount it on my Manfrotto 925b and mount my Pentax K10D on it in about 2 minutes without ever looking at the manual. I then took a quick glance to see about determining entrance points, and was taking pictures on my porch within 5 minutes. Very simple to use and very solid feeling..... I know there are other ones out there for a lot more money, but I can honestly say I can't imagine what might be better about them. The Ninja is built to last forever, and the customer support cannot be beat. Highly recommended.

  98. Bill, Wow.... I wasn't expecting that.... Thank you very much for the gesture, I sincerely appreciate it. I've been looking over forums etc for a while, researching panoramic heads, and I realised that you had a class outfit, but I have to say I really am taken aback, not to mention thoroughly impressed, by just how much you genuinely want your customers to be happy with their Nodal Ninja experience. Bravo! You have just relegated B&H and 17th Street Photo to positions 2 and 3 on my mental list of photography good guys! Once again, many thanks,
    Graham L. United Kingdom

  99. Hi. I just bought the NN3 last week. It was ordered from Rosauro (Canadian Reseller) and the experience was first rate. I've already shot many dozens of panos with it and I like it very much....Before closing this message, I wish to once again assert that I am a happy user..... If you do not change a thing about your detent system or your product, I will continue to use, enjoy, and recommend it. I can do what I want to do with it by putting in the plate with only two detents and using the smooth areas, however, when you're shooting at sunset and trying to take the pano as quickly as possible because of the rapidly changing light conditions, the detents are a God send. A very happy user,
    Tom B Canada (Pentax K100D, DA 50-200, DA 40L, DA 16-45)

  100. Bill, many thanks for your incredible service and the pre sales assistance. I ordered my NN3 last Tuesday and it arrived here yesterday (Monday), I should also thank the US and Australian postal services. I assembled the NN3 in less than a minute and love the rigidity, look and feel of it.

  101. Hi Folks, I bought one of the NN3 pano heads after reading the comments on these forums and I have been well impressed with it since. A well constructed piece of equipment an well priced. Unfortunately, I managed to damage my NN3 and from that experience I am even more of a fan of the NN3 as I found that their customer service is second to none. I contacted Fanotec for advice after damaging the NN3 and I was bowled over by the quick response and by a quick replacement part shipped over from the states. Often I read customer reviews on web sites and seldom believe the comments. I have to say though, I now believe all I read about Fanotec and the Nodal Ninja. If anyone is considering buying a panohead, consider the NN3. To my mind, you really cant go wrong with the NN3.

  102. The Nodal Ninja arrived safely and I have been very impressed by its construction and neat way it can been put together and then packed away back into such a small pouch. This makes it very handy and a prefect accessory to always carry in a camera bag. Regards,

  110. Dear Mr. Bill Bailey, MANY MANY THANKS for considering me as a 'SPECIAL CASE' and so nice of you. Till time, I was manage with my hand made pano head with lots of unnecessary editing efforts for stitching errors and now after getting NN3, I hope I will do much much batter for my VR business. All credit pass on to Mr. Bill - NN3. Many thanks for proving camera set up to start using NN3 as soon as its in my hand. (I have Nikon D50 + 10.5 Nikkon Fisheye Lens and its camera set up for using NN3 is with me in advance from your website. User Manual also downloaded & printed and found very useful. Once again Many Thanks Mr. Bill Bailey. Best regards,

  111. I want to reiterate that I really like your pano-head. It is the only one I am willing to travel with (the (deleted) was a pain, and the (deleted) is a monster). I totally agree that your panohead is an engineering compromise (every head is a compromise). But well used and a properly calibrated lens, I can make panos as good as with any other head.

  114. It was a quiet night on Mawson Station. Many people stayed up until the early hours of the morning watching a very spectacular aurora display over the station. Max temp:-4.0Min temp:-13.2 Max wind gust: SSE 57knots. This is a beautiful place for photography. I use a Nikon D200 with Nikon 17-55mm and 10.5mm lenses, this being mounted on my Nodal Ninja atop a Manfrotto Tripod 3001BN with the Manfrotto 3265 Vertcial Hand Grip. Because of NN’s all metal construction it performs quite well in under such extreme conditions. Also being easy to setup and take down (one knob) makes it a valuable addition to my gear. A great product! Best Regards from the bottom of the world.

  132. Several years ago, when I discovered the liberating combination of digital camera and multi-exposure panorama, I knew, someday, I would probably end up either getting some expensive setup (having started with a point-and-shoot camera, or never attempt a panorama again. Needless to say, with Canon releasing the 300d, the panorama addiction grew. Then I discovered the ridiculously amazing works featured on sites such as www.panoramas.dk, and I knew I was going to have to get a well made tripod head in order to have the ease of precision that is afforded to the pros. The last straw in my age of freehand panoramas was a commissioned work for a large-scale backdrop for a museum on a shoe-string budget. Shooting the pictures was easy - shot about 30 in two minutes. But then came stitching and correcting them. It was a nightmare. 20 hours of Photoshop gave me a releasable product, but I swore off shooting panoramas unassisted unless it was an emergency.
So I then looked on the net for a suitable pano-head. I have to admit: When I first looked at the Nodal Ninja, I wondered whether it would work with a setup using a 5D body. But it was the most affordable and portable rig I could find. When I put it to use though, I was glad I had gotten the T-adapter as well. The learning curve with this device is non-existent, and I got immediate results with 30min of trial and error (possibly less if I had used the grid technique)......To finish, all I really wanted to say was I appreciate having such a well-made panoramic head made available for such an excellent price. (next to filters and a camera rain cover, it's the least expensive piece of gear in my kit) It works with the Canon 5D setup perfectly, and I can't imagine not working without it (even though I really know I had to before). I certainly will recommend it to any one who inquires about panoramic photography. Thanks Again,
    Emil E. Victoria Canada (Canon 5D EF 16-35mm f/2.8L)

  158. Hi Bill, I can not explain how happy I am with the NN 3. Installing, setting for my Nikon was so easy. In the meantime I did three 360? Panos. How many of my time was wasted to plan, buy stuff, screwing, sawing...to built a DIY Pano-Adapter. And always it took a lot of time to set up the heavy beast with three spirit levels.... IT WAS BORING ! 110% satisfied I wrote: I will tell this to my colleges in the forum. Done !

  161. My work has steadily improved and I have been asked to provide work for the liberty State Park complex including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Eland and so forth. It's not a big payer mind you but the commission should be a good platform for some press releases to my commercial direction. I just wanted to say that I could not have done it without your help, support and of course the Nodal Ninja tool.

  162. Just to let you know that I have just received the NN3 and I am already impressed! I normally use the (deleted) unit (which is very heavy) but this one will be excellent for traveling. Thank you for an excellent product and service. Cheers,

  163. Bill, I bought the Nodal Ninja 3 about a month ago to replace a (deleted) head and could not be happier! It is an excellent value - superb design, construction, finish, and precision in use. Thank you and Nick for such a great product that is obviously a labor of love. Thank you again,

  164. Anybody want to buy my (deleted)? Wish I found your Nodal Ninja before I bought the (deleted). Nodal Ninja is more accurate, stable, smaller, and MUCH cheaper than (deleted). Thank you Nick for developing an excellent product.

  165. Hi Bill, Thank you for your speedy response. Much appreciated. I got to give you a credit on knowing how to treat your customers. I read and heard about lots of people having excellent experience with you and the pano head you sell, and it looks like I'm having one, too. I haven't started to work with the head yet, but I already like what I'm seeing. Looking forward to start shooting my panos with it in a couple of days. Thank you again for your service.
    Sergi Y. USA

  166. On a scale of one to 10 I give nodal Ninja a 9. I would like to see it work with my Canon Mark II. It does work perfectly with my 5D using the 8mm 3.5. Regards
    Chuck B. New Hampshire

  167. Whoa! How cool is this? What a neat little setup! This is my first VR head and really glad I bought it. I was doing things by hand before but now that I have this Nodal Ninja I can keep it in my bag (fits nicely) and use it whenever I do my panoramas. And the tutorial on your website (I do use different software however) has helped me to fine tune my techniques. Many thanks

  170. You may remember that the other day I explained my dilemma about what lens to buy to go with my NN3, EOS20D, PTGui & Pano2QTVR setup. Well, I plumped for the Tokina 10-17mm AT-X 107 DX Fisheye in the end.... The Tokina fits perfectly - it is only a little larger than the Canon 18-55mm kit lens. I took my time setting the rig up to eliminate parallax and I have been rewarded with some very successful panos. Thanks again for all your help
    Simon N. UK

  171. Nick - you have done it even better! I had the SPH-1 and NN3 is a vast improvement. I wish your company great success. Bill is a great community and I owe him thanks for answering all my questions and getting this out to me so quickly.

  174. Nick, you have a designed a product that suits my needs perfectly! I travel allot and always on the go, being single is tough :-). I don’t do panoramas for a living but probably take more panoramas that many pros. It’s a fun and a very exciting aspect of photography. The fact I can hike out into the desert or climb some hills and easily tuck this is bag is what sold me. The build quality, detents, and handy little case (snug fit) only adds it it’s lure. Bill is tops! Give him a raise, opps, maybe not or you would have to raise the price :-). All kidding aside I hope you add this testimonial to your page as your panorama head is an excellent value for it’s price.

  175. Hi Bill, Just got the product photography and the first test done for the Nodal Ninja... incredible product so far. It's much smaller than I thought... highly portable and incredibly accurate. Thanks so much again!

  176. ...here are some words from a satisfied customer. I am the house photographer for a large restored very ornate 1920's era movie house. I have been making large panoramas of the interior, for years with great difficulty. Upon getting the  Nodal Ninja, I immediately started a new panorama project for the theater. The ease of use is outstanding. I wish I had this wonderful tool years ago. Also thank you Bill for the wonderful communications, I highly recommend your product and of course, you personally.
    Lou B. USA (Canon 5 D with 16-35mm)

  177. Hello Bill, This was quick...got the missing knob today...now I will learn how to use the equipment. I will get back to you when I know more. This is exciting! Thanks for all your trouble.

  178. Works with a 5D+ shaved Tokina10-17/Sig 15/Nik 10,5 and more, even without mirror up. What can I say more ........ Have Fun

  179. I just thought I would drop in a note about Nodal Ninja. Compared to other pano heads, it's smaller, lighter and significantly less money. I was going to build anothr head, this time for my D200, but splurged on the NN3...I'm impressed. I can't say it's better than other pano heads because I haven't used other heads. But it's fast and easy and very compact for taking along with you.....I'm using it with the D200 and the 18-200 lens at 18. You have to pull it all the way back on the top rail to get the nodal point, but it works great and helps speed panorama factory along to make QTVR/Panoramas. I find at 18 degrees, 10 shots works perfectly for a full QTVR. With a adaptor, you can shoot horizontal, landscape mode panoramas. I love this thing! I use Panorama Factory but also have tried a number of other programs like Hugin for the MAC, Photovista etc. The NN3 is mounted on a Manfrotto Ball Head (488rcd) on a 3021Pro Manfrotto Tripod.

  182. My new NN3 arrived yesterday. I have been quite impressed with it so far, using a 20D+Sigma 8mm combination. No problems setting it up and it looks very smart and neat.
    John H. England

  183. While the lighter weight of the NN3 is attractive, given transatlantic travels, I find the price of the discontinued SPH-2sd more so, in light of my relative inexperience in panos. I also like the fact that your product is partially pre-assembled, that it is well tooled (from reports on dpreview) and that it comes in a case.

  184. “First Panorama with Nodal Ninja 3” I have to give two thumbs up to Nodal Ninja 3 at this time. I got the full kit which included the T-Adapter so I could do landscape panoramas in addition to a full spherical. It seemed like I figured out the Entrance Pupil for my Tamron 17-50 so I went out to San Diego Bay to try it out. What a piece of cake! I set my D70 to Aperture mode and set my focus to Manual after setting the Hyper focal distance. All I needed to do at that point was push the shutter, rotate 30 degrees and repeat. I didn't need to look through the viewfinder or anything else. It took about 15 seconds to shoot and I was done.

  187. I received the Nodal Ninja in time so I took the NN with me on vacation. (the perfect opportunity to try out the NN) It works great! Really worth the wait!! I'm still a beginner in photography, so I have to practice a lot, but the NN is really a must have! Especially for 360° photos.

  188. “Review of the Nodal Ninja"
Early thoughts on the Nodal Ninja I've recently acquired. The slings and arrows of life have kept me too busy to do anything with my Nodal Ninja until now; I've finally "calibrated" one of my lenses. Well thought out, well engineered, and very well made, and reasonably priced. Designed to be used with the camera vertical....Based on the pictures done while finding the "nodal" point of my 18-70mm at 18mm, (78mm set back on the Nodal Ninja) I think it will do just fine.

  195. By the way, I love the Nodal Ninja, I've been able to take some great Equirectangular panoramas with it already. And pass on my thanks to everyone else involved with the Nodal Ninja 3. Such a great product at such a fair price with really good instructions and help online as well. Thanks!

  196. Hi Bill, That's brilliant. Much appreciate it. I’ve just put the NN together and I think it's brilliant. I had a (deleted) before which cost about $450 over here and it was crap. Absolutely terrible workmanship and so many design flaws. So happy new year and keep up the good work

  197. Thanks for the parts - arrived today. Excellent. Went out with the nn3 and managed to take the attached last night. Overlap wasn't quite enough (will be great with the n=20 disk you sent me), so you can just about see the joins in the sky, but pretty excellent anyway. The stitching process (10 images) in ptgui was the easiest ever due to the consistent overlaps and perfectly vertical images. Images were taken with my Canon 30D and new Canon 17-55 f2.8 - a superbly sharp lens and ideally suited to panos. Regards,
    Mike T. Australia (Canon 30D, 17-55)

  198. Bill, Thanks again for all you've done to make this transaction go great including the express shipping... Even with the rough weather around here the NN3's arrived about an hour ago and I've already been playing with one of them trying to see exactly how they work, w/o reading the manual of course! I will need to print it out and do some studying as this is a really well-designed and capable piece of equipment. Had some doubts re using every-other detent to get e.g. 36 degree intervals but this turns out to be no problem at all, easy to skip right by the first one by "feel" and then there you are ready for the next shot. So thanks to you for your good support here in the states, and for making this transaction easy, and to Nick for continuing to improve the design!
Charlie C. (Canon XTi w/18-55 kit lens )

  199. Bill, Thank you for sending the 15/18 detent disc.... I have been doing cylindrical panos for 5+ years so I really like how I can now do the full sphere without the 5+ need for a super wide angle or fisheye lens. Your product is certainly the best I have seen and used for size, weight and price. Most appreciated,

  202. Thanks to Rosauro’s tutorial, it gave me some ideas I hadn’t thought of....it was very well done and must have taken time to produce. It helps to have stuff like this out there for us newbies..

  203. Please add this to your testimonial site....your product is superior, I haven’t had to use your support but have heard it’s superior as well. I use Nodal Ninja on almost a daily basis for work and play. I had to take a recent flight and the guy at the security gate asked me to explain what it was. Guess when they saw it folded up that I might be concealing something dangerous. Product and support are the two main ingredients to success and of course price. It’s good to know I have a company behind me if something breaks or goes wrong.
    Mic W. Berlin Germany

  204. The only thing I see that I don’t like about Nodal Ninja is the wearing out of brass parts. I’ve shot 100’s of panos with NN3 thus far and haven’t yet needed to replace any wear parts. Thanks for adding in the extra parts, I won’t have to bother you when the time comes to finally replace the detent pin.

  208. OKAY, you have rave reviews but let’s see if you post this one. I’m not happy with with your Nodal Ninja, why? Because it doesn’t fit medium format cameras. The design and build quality are undeniably but it just doesn’t support the big guns. I’m not going to return it though as I may step down to a DSLR one day. So with that said I do believe that once I step into the world of DSLR I feel this will be a welcomed addition to my gear. Regards

  209. I just bought a used Nodal Ninja on eBay. I was disappointed to hear you don’t offer a warranty but with the model being over 2 years old I understand. This Nodal Ninja was sent through the grinder but it all still works perfectly. I do single row pano’s and had to send you an e-mail telling you and your readers (assuming you want to post this on your website) that the product is smartly designed. I’m a bit of cheap guy and would buy used before buying new but may after a few months consider the new model for it’s click stop feature. Good luck and keep on keeping on.

  211. Just received my Nodal Ninja. What a mess!! I’m talking about the package this is :-) The postal workers must have used it as a hockey puck as the package was very abused to say the least. But I am happy to report the pano head was just fine. I took it out out hooked it up and it works great! It’s perfect for my needs (Real Estate QTVR’s). I did have a bit of trouble with it at first and appreciate how fast you were to offer the quick fix that was also posted on your website FAQ page. Apparently it just needed some tightening. It shows company concern for consumer satisfaction. Thank you very much and wishing you the best of success for 2007.

  221. Just want to say how very impressed I am with the improvements. Now I can set up and level the head in record time. The results are consistent. I no longer need the extra level. Stays dead on throughout the entire rotation. No more guesswork, adjusting and readjusting. Perhaps these differences are subtle to some, but they are major to me. Great workl!!! 225. I got the NN3 today and I am amazed at the quality of the piece!  I was expecting  some plastic and some wobble but man, I bet I could use it as a bludgeoning device if I had to!  The detent  mechanism clicking into place  enhance the weaponry quality of it.  I can tell a lot of thought went into designing it.  Good stuff! ... amazing value for the money. Thanks again!
